Should a woman, who lost a man to another woman, try to find out what kind of person did she lose to?

Janice Vidal (衛蘭) released a new Cantonese ballad “Enemy” (天敵), which seems to continue the story of her previous single “Wounded” (驗傷), and explores a woman’s feelings after a breakup. The lyrics are written by famous Hong Kong lyrist Wyman Wong, which talks about a woman trying to kind out what kind of person is currently together with her ex-boyfriend. She feels a sense of humiliation, deeper feelings of hurt and even loses all her self confidence, when she finds out that the woman she lost to is not even nearly as good as her. This is where she has decided to move on, because she realizes that it is never about who is better, it is about who her ex-boyfriend loves.

Even though the lyrics seem to express feelings of sadness and depression, the composer of the song, JUDE, uses the elegant yet nonchalant jazz beats to express the female protagonist’s decision to let go and move on. This is shown in the video, where Janice was acting as the protagonist, walking along the street that is drizzling with rain. However, she seems enjoying herself, roaming on the street, trying to live a normal life, and appreciating the small little things she sees along the way.

The small little smiles Janice displays in the music video, has showed all women going through the same ordeal, that it is meaningless to make any comparison with other women and it is more important to move on, be happy and enjoy life.
