• Title: Shouldn't Be (不該) - Feat. A-Mei
  • Artist: Jay Chou
  • Runtime: 4:53   Language: Mandarin
  • Date: July 3, 2016

Shouldn’t Be” (不該) is Jay Chou’s first duet song with the Taiwanese pop diva A-Mei, and is featured in his latest album “Jay Chou’s Bedtime Stories”. This melody was thoughtfully composed by Jay Chou to showcase both of their singing skills, with the lyrics beautifully written by Vincent Fang, to tell a story of how a man and woman move on from their break up.

The lyrics are expressed in the video, where the couple was happily together until the man found out that he was sick and had to leave his girlfriend. She then married another man even though she had not moved on. In the lyrics, A-Mei, representing the woman, was unable to cope with the sadness of the breakup as the man lived in her memories. However, Jay Chou, representing the man, hopes that she can move on, and is ready to give her hands to her next lover. The song ends with a sad yet encouraging note, suggesting that it is better to let go after breaking up, as it will cause more hurt if both parties stubbornly cling on each other.

Shouldn’t Be” was written for an upcoming Chinese Television drama “Ice Fantasy” (幻城), which is the first-time Jay Chou has written a drama theme song that he was not casted in. Jay Chou’s “The Invincible” Concert Tour 2016, held in 13 cities, has already started in June, and ends in November.
