• Title: Braveness (勇敢)
  • Artist: Mayday
  • Runtime: 4:49   Language: Mandarin
  • Date: January 17, 2016

A pinoneer of Taiwanese rock music, Mayday has captured the teenage angst and growing pains that made them popular among Taiwanese youth in mid-to-late 90s. The song, Braveness, recaptures some of that angst.

Starting with a soft presence, the singer asking depressing questions about the state of his times but grows in strength as he develops resolve to be brave during those times. The accompanying reel of short scenes and snapshots -- the shop windows, rain-blurred windshields, train cars rolling by, lonely drifting clouds, silhouetted figures and other abstract representations -- match the mood of the music. Each scene also leaves us thinking about what it means and adds to the depth of the song lyrics.

This song also sung by the actor Shih-Sian Wang, was featured as the theme song in the Taiwanese TV drama Taste of Life.
